CEUs for Academic Coursework (AC)

This product covers one quarter-length or semester-length course.

CEUs may be awarded for Academic Coursework taken from an accredited institution and successfully completed during the participant’s current cycle. This accreditation must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in the U.S. or the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education in the European Union. Any other institution must be reviewed by the RID Professional Development Committee. Successful completion is defined as receiving at minimum a letter grade of “C” (2.0) or pass for pass/fail courses.

IMPORTANT NOTES: 

• Academic Coursework credits may be processed at any time during an interpreter’s CMP Cycle for any course successfully completed during that cycle. 
• If the participant is auditing the course or taking it through the continuing education office of the institution, they should contact a Sponsor prior to the start of the course to complete a Participant Initiated Non-RID Activity Plan (PINRA).
• If the course’s application to interpreting is unclear yet circumstances warrant professional studies credits, the applicant will be required to provide justification describing how completing the course will improve the applicant’s interpreting work.
• RID converts Academic Coursework credit on a basis of 1 quarter credit = 10 contact hours (1.0 CEU) and 1 semester credit = 1.5 contact hours (1.5 CEUs).
